After an active campaign season for area candidates of public office, voters will head to the polls next Tuesday, June 3, to make their voices heard in the 2014 primary.
In the race for governor, Gov. Robert Bentley is facing two challengers in the Republican primary, Stacey Lee George and Bob Starkey.
On the Democratic primary ballot for governor, Kevin Bass faces Parker Griffith, which is the only Democratic primary race within Coffee County.
Other offices on the ballot for the Republican primary include incumbent Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey, who faces challenger Stan Cooke.
In the House race in District 90, representing the northwestern portion of the county, including portions of Elba, incumbent Charles Newton has switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, and faces challenger Chris Sells.
For the Alabama Senate District 31, Garreth Moore is challenging Republican incumbent Jimmy Holley.
In House District 91, Republican incumbent Barry Moore faces challenger Joshua Pipkin.
The primary race for Secretary of State is between Republican candidates Reese McKinney, John Merrill and Jim Perdue.
Whoever wins the race will face Democratic candidate Lula Albert-Kaigler.
The Secretary of State seat is open due to the term of incumbent Jim Bennett’s appointment to the seat after the resignation of previous officeholder Beth Chapman.
For State Auditor, the race is between Dale Peterson, Hobbie L. Sealy, Adam Thompson and Jim Zeigler. Incumbent Samantha Shaw, who was first elected in 2006, is not seeking re-election due to constitutional term limits.
In Public Service Commission Place 1, incumbent Jeremy Oden faces Kathy Peterson.
In Place 2, incumbent Terry Dunn faces several challengers including Jonathan Barbee, Chris “Chip” Beeker Jr. and Phillip Brown.
Three challengers are running against incumbent Tim Whitehead, including Daniel Edwards, Robert Preachers and Steve Resteivo.
Ed Foy and Ben McKee are running for Place 2 on the State Republican Executive Committee for Coffee County.
For District 2 of the State Board of Education, incumbent Betty Peters is facing challenger Barry Sadler.
Two seats are available on the Coffee County Board of Education.
In District 1, currently held by Joseph Arnold who is not seeking re-election, Brian McLeod, Amelia Rhoades and Jamie Wyrosdick are vying for the seat.
In District 7, Danny Jernigan is not seeking re-election and Larry Eddins, Michael McDaniel and Natalie Neuwien are vying for the seat.
Voters must bring a government issued photo identification card in order to vote. If a voter does not have a photo I.D., voters can fill out a regular ballot if two of the election officials can verify your identification. If voting officials cannot identify you, the voter must fill out a provisional ballot.
Polls will open at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m., June 3, with a primary runoff scheduled July 15.
The general election is set for Nov. 4.
