The Enterprise Chamber of Commerce helped recognize some of the Enterprise City Schools’ best and brightest during the 2012 Teacher and Support Personnel of the Year Awards Tea on Nov. 14.
The chamber hosted the event at the Enterprise Service Center to celebrate the teachers in the Enterprise system, and to commemorate National Education Week.
“The chamber is very honored and very proud to host this event each year,” said President Phil Thomas. “Making sure that our children are educated is an essential part of our community, and we thank you for what you do.”
Every year, each of the school system’s 11 schools selects a Teacher of the Year.
The teachers in each school nominate and vote for their respective Teacher of the Year nominee and the winners of each school compete for the titles of Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Each teacher is judged on his or her educational history, professional biography, community involvement, teaching philosophy, educational transit issues and the message they would like to share if selected as the Teacher of the Year for the state of Alabama.
This year College Street Elementary School’s Amy Pippins was selected as the Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Dauphin Junior High School’s Megan Driggers was named Secondary Teacher of the Year.
“I am very honored,” Pippins said. “I was in complete disbelief because I have so many fantastic peers at College Street and in the entire system.”
Driggers said she felt very blessed to be nominated and is excited about representing Enterprise City Schools at the state level.
“Congratulations to our teachers and support staff,” said Superintendent Aaron Milner. “Congratulations not just for this award, but for the job you do every single day.”
Milner said it is a personal honor to work with the teachers and support staff of Enterprise City Schools.
The 2012-2013 Enterprise City Schools’ Elementary Teachers of the Year are Teresa Layton, Enterprise Early Education Center; Pippins, College Street; Linda Lawrence, Harrand Creek; Teryan Clark, Hillcrest; Holly Wilks, Holly Hill; Mark Jones, Pinedale and Britany Howell, Rucker Boulevard.
The 2012 Enterprise City Schools’ Secondary Teachers of the Year are Cheryl Harper, Coppinville Junior High School; Driggers, Dauphin Junior High School; Bryan Peacock, Enterprise Junior High School and Sue Peacock, Enterprise High School.
