Daleville mayor signs Red Ribbon Week Proclamation

Daleville Mayor Claudia Wigglesworth signed a proclamation at the Oct. 20 council meeting after City Clerk Angelia Filmore read the document. Other council members looked on. The proclamation said the city strongly supports a visible, unified approach to a drug-free community, declaring the week of Oct. 23 – Oct. 31 as Red Ribbon Week. The mayor encouraged all citizens to participate in the drug-free campaign. The declaration coincides with a nationwide effort to fight drugs. The National Family Partnership (NFP) sponsored the first Red Ribbon celebration in 1988, according to their website, with the intention to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
