Every game needs a story, and now we have a chance to make that happen.
The Daleville Sun-Courier launched its new website last week, and changes are in store for the sports section.
Since I’ve been in the Wiregrass, and I’m sure for the 25 years before I got here, filling the sports section has never been a problem. We live in a city whose residents value athletics. That’s great for a sports writer except for one small problem.
We constantly ran out of room in the newspaper. Stories had to be shortened. Pictures had to be removed.
With the new website, space is no longer a problem. We’ve got all the space in the world wide web. (And that’s a lot of space!)
It has always been my belief that every game deserved a story. With the new website that can now happen. The stories that don’t make it in the paper, will go on the website. To see extended editions of the stories that run in the paper, visit the website.
It may not always be a long story, but we can at least get some names, scores and stats online instead of bumping the entire story out of the newspaper.
This is something I’ve wanted to do since I’ve been the sports editor at the Sun-Courier and I’m excited to be able to do it.
But there will be so much more.
We are now equipped with video cameras. We will post videos from time to time on the website, either of an interview or a special production of the Daleville Sun-Courier.
Brandon Burks’ performance Friday night was captured by our cameras. A highlight reel, complete with interviews hit the website later that night.
We have plans for bigger projects in the future.
We’ve expanded our coverage area to include Kinston and Zion Chapel. We’ve added the Southeastern Conference, the University of Alabama and Auburn University.
We’ll continue giving you the thorough coverage of Enterprise, New Brockton and Daleville sports, but we’ll be able to update the site daily. We will continue to be your community weekly newspaper, but we’ll have a website that will be updated daily.
We’ll enjoy telling you what’s happening in the sports scene around town. We hope you enjoy reading it.
