Officers with the Daleville Department of Public Safety arrested a 49-year-old man for felony assault after he allegedly hit a pedestrian and dragged her under his car.
John Charles Stives, of Coffee Springs, was arrested and charged July 2 with first-degree assault after fleeing the scene of the incident, which occurred at the Inland Gas Station in Daleville at about 3:20 p.m.
A police statement said officers arriving on scene found the victim lying on the ground with abrasions to her legs and back and tire marks on her legs.
Daleville investigator Sgt. Jason Grantham said the victim was dragged under the car for about 70 feet.
The victim was transported to the hospital for her injuries.
According to the statement, the victim and her co-worker were at the gas station to repossess the suspect’s vehicle. Stives got into the car and struck the victim as he attempted to flee the parking lot.
Stives was taken to the Dale County Jail and released on a $50,000 bond.
