The Veterans of Foreign Wars honored Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson with the national award for law enforcement during a District 7 awards ceremony hosted at the Daleville VFW Post 6020, April 19.

"This means a lot to me coming from you," Olson said to an audience of veterans and their families.

Olson won the honor at the district level, before going on to win the state and national level.

"It's an honor to serve my community. I'm living my dream." Olson said. "Thank you for what you've done for our nation, our state and community."

District 7 consists of Enterprise, Ozark, Dothan, Opp, Andalusia, Daleville, Eufaula and Red Level.

Other honors received during the awards ceremony were for District 7 Teacher of the Year Lisa Halpin, third grade teacher at Fort Rucker Primary School; James Hudson, District 7 Paramedic of the Year; and Richard Lee, District 7 Firefighter of the Year.

Edwin Sapp II received second place in District 7 for the Patriot Pin and Peyton Souders received second place in District 7 for the Voice of Democracy essay contest.
