The Enterprise Wildcats and Lady Cats hit the road on Jan. 14 and picked up area wins over Montgomery’s Jeff Davis.
The Wildcats (13-10, 1-3) picked up their first area win by a score of 57-45 after a dominating fourth quarter.
Enterprise jumped out to a 16-10 lead in the first quarter and at halftime held a 25-22 lead after Jeff Davis outscored the Wildcats 12-9 in the second period.
Jeff Davis again outscored Enterprise in the third quarter and managed to tie the score up 36-36 headed into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Enterprise utterly dominated the Vols, outscoring them 21-9 on the way to a much-needed area win.
Both teams shot well – Enterprise at 41.1 percent and Jeff Davis at 44.4 percent from the field – but struggled from the three-point line. Enterprise knocked down 5-of-23 three’s and Jeff Davis hit just 2-of-11.
Both sides also hit the boards equally with Enterprise coming down with 29 rebounds and Jeff Davis securing 28.
The big difference, however, was Jeff Davis’ 19 turnovers compared to just eight by Enterprise. The Wildcats managed to pick off 11 steals in the win.
Senior Dallas Howell had an effective night knocking down 7-of-14 shot attempts with 16 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals.
Junior Josh McCray also had a solid outing with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals. McCray shot 5-of-8 from the field.
Sophomore Quentin Hayes chipped in with 14 points and four rebounds, while junior Jared Smith had eight points and two assists.
The Wildcats followed up with another area road matchup with Prattville on Jan. 17, but came away with a loss this time 56-46 in a frustrating finish.
Enterprise held a 26-25 lead at halftime but trailed 39-36 heading into the final period. The Lions outscored the Wildcats 17-10 to earn the win.
The Wildcats struggled from the field – shooting 34.8 percent – while Prattville shot 57.9 percent. The biggest factor, however, was Enterprise’s 22 turnovers in the loss. Prattville turned those 22 turnovers into 19 points. Prattville also outrebounded Enterprise 25-24.
McCray led Enterprise with 15 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists in the loss. while Howell and Hayes scored 12 points each, Howell also grabbed seven rebounds and Hayes grabbed five.
The only other two Wildcats to score points in the loss were Jalen Cunningham (four points) and Smith (three points). Cunningham also had three assists.
The Lady Cats (7-16, 2-2) also picked up their first area win with a 43-21 thumping of the Lady Vols.
Lay Lay McClain led Enterprise with 23 points, while Jadyn Williams pitched in with six points.
The Lady Cats moved to .500 in area play on Jan. 17 with a dominating 41-29 win over Prattville on the road.
Dashia Nelson led the Lady Cats with 15 points in the win, while Harmony Baker added eight points.
