Jessica Paul-Stevens may not be a Gator fan, but her new football player-in-the-making couldn't wait to come into the world just in time to see Florida beat Ohio State on Jan. 2 during the Gator Bowl.
"I let him have the game on while I was delivering - as long as he had the volume down," Paul-Stevens said about her fiancé Josh Eldreth. "I started pushing as soon as the game came on and he was born as Florida made the first touchdown."
Aiden Michael Eldreth was the first baby born in 2012 at the Enterprise Women's Center, making him the official New Year's baby. Aiden weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces.
Since Paul-Stevens was giving birth on Jan. 2 instead of Jan. 1, she never imagined her baby would be the first of the year. Imagine her surprise when a gift basket with goodies provided by the Enterprise Women's Center was delivered.
The day was made even more special since her father, Vance Paul, was there for the delivery. Paul-Stevens said she asked to be induced because her dad would be deployed to Kuwait when she was initially expected to give birth, Jan. 10.
Recalling his daughter as a baby herself, Paul said it doesn't take long to flash back and then realize he's now a grandpa.
"It's hard to associate grandpa to where we are, but it's amazing to look down at that kid's face," Paul said.
Aiden's proud new father couldn't agree more, "I was ecstatic ... absolutely ecstatic."
"There are just no words to describe the feeling," Paul-Stevens said about giving birth. "It was just amazing for one second to have this little life inside you and then the next have him out and holding him. I was happy that he was here and that he was healthy."
