Progress continues at New Brockton High School where construction crews are busy completing several projects and renovations.
The $2.3 million project includes an expansion of the lunchroom, new media center, gymnasium lobby and renovations to hallways and auditorium.
The construction will double the size of the current cafeteria and add a new library with 21st century technology and a small cyber cafe. The current library will be renovated into three additional classrooms. Two other classrooms adjacent to the auditorium are also being renovated.
The gymnasium lobby is also doubling in size and will include a concession area and bathrooms. The auditorium has been stripped of the old white paint and has returned to the former brick wall surface.
"We've got everything under roof right now aside from the lobby of the gymnasium," said Superintendent Dr. Don McPherson during a Jan. 5 school board meeting. "Everything is coming along very well. By the end of the month we hope to be in the auditorium and perhaps have two classrooms back."
The construction is on schedule and currently about 60 percent complete and expected to be finished in time for the 2013 school year.
The project has been in the making for nearly three years with funds for the project coming from federal bond money and Qualified School Construction Bonds.
