The Enterprise Police Department has confirmed that a second arrest has been made relating to a threat made against students at Dauphin Junior High School.
During the course of their investigation, the EPD Criminal Investigation Division questioned a second juvenile and it was determined that "terroristic threats" were made on a social media website by the individual.
The juvenile was transported to the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center.
According to a press release, Enterprise Police Chief T.D. Jones was closely involved with investigators assigned to this case and after examining all evidence it appeared there was no credible threat to students in the school system.
However, as a precaution, added security measures were put into place during the investigation.
The EPD feels that no additional arrests will be made in the case.
The EPD thanks the Federal Bureau of Investigation Dothan Field Office and the Enterprise City School System for their assistance and cooperation during the investigation.
In a statement from the Enterprise City School System, interim superintendent Jimmy Baker confirmed the investigation of a social media posting directing threats toward students at Dauphin Junior High School has been concluded with the second arrest.
According to the release, because of an ongoing investigation, school officials have been limited in providing information about the case to the public.
"I am extremely proud of the actions taken by our system staff and leadership in managing this situation this week. Upon learning of the posting early Tuesday morning, Oct. 8, 2013, we implemented and followed our system's crisis management protocols and they provided the needed guidance for us to successfully manage this situation," Baker said. "I want to thank the law enforcement officials for their hard and tireless work in bringing this sensitive matter to a conclusion on such an expedited basis. I especially want to express our appreciation to the mayor and chief of police for the dedication and commitment of our local officials in leading this effort."
Baker said the matter would now be managed through the judicial process.
"I want to assure our parents and teachers and especially our students that at no time were any of our teachers or students in immediate danger of their safety during this process. Our system's policies and procedures provided direction and a safe framework for the management of this unfortunate ordeal," Baker said. "The school staff immediately took all appropriate steps and actions to involve the proper authorities in this matter and we are thankful that it is concluded with no incident or harm to anyone."
After administering this process over the last four days, Baker concluded his statement saying, "I have never been more proud of our staff and our city leaders and we can all rest better knowing this matter is now behind us. I am also appreciative to our parents and students for their concern and patience during this process."
