Two teenagers and a juvenile have been arrested in connection with the widespread "Zomby" vandalisms, reported by multiple victims in at least five area cities.
Daleville Police Chief Ronnie Williamson said following an investigation Reyes Reyes, a Hispanic male, 18, of Level Plains, and Michael White, a black male, 18, of Daleville, were arrested Dec. 21. Reyes and White were each charged with felony first-degree criminal mischief. The juvenile interviewed regarding the crimes was arrested Dec. 20.
Williamson expects the suspects to also be charged with multiple misdemeanor charges related to the vandalisms in Level Plains, Enterprise, Clayhatchee and Pinckard.
The incidents began about two months ago in Daleville, after residents complained about small rocks being thrown in windows, followed by the word "Zomby" spray painted on cars, churches and other buildings.
According to officials in Enterprise, the suspects, who wrote "Zomby" on garage doors, targeted homes in the Rucker Boulevard area.
During the investigation police had confiscated two letters, which were wrapped around bricks and thrown through church windows in two separate incidents.
The first letter read, "ow cn u kil the dead," (How can you kill the dead?) signed "Zomby."
The contents of the second letter were not released.
Williamson said authorities believe the actions of the suspects are not gang related.
Dale County Sheriff's Department Investigator Harvey Mathis said the Daleville Police Department deserves all the credit for the arrests.
"We went and interviewed the suspects which resulted in a misdemeanor charge in Pinckard," Mathis said. "Daleville lead the investigation."
The information provided by authorities does not indicate a conviction regarding any of the suspects.
Anyone with additional information about the rash of vandalisms is asked to call the Daleville Police Department at 598-4442.
