The Enterprise City Council approved July 17 to purchase a building located near city hall to serve as a maintenance building and storage facility.
Councilmembers unanimously approved the $150,000 purchase of property located at 407 Mill Avenue. The closing costs and other fees will be added for no more than $1,000, according to city attorney Rainer Cotter.
Mayor Kenneth Boswell said the facility currently used on Doster Street is outdated and is not sufficient for the needs of the city.
The new building has 5,500 square feet of enclosed space and 10,000 total square feet for maintenance and storage of city items including signage and equipment.
Boswell also said it will be more convenient for supervisors to have the location of the building closer to city hall.
In other news, the council approved the new zoning ordinance, awarded a bid for HVAC maintenance to Comfort Systems USA for $72,305 per year for three years and another bid for "two day" cab tractors from Fourstar Freightliner for $123,000.
Councilmembers also approved a resolution authorizing the application for funding assistance from the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program from the Alabama Department of Transportation for the improvements to Dauphin Street. The total project cost is $1.6 million. The city would provide a 20 percent match of the project costs and utility relocation for $598,302.
The council also approved a request to install a street light at 206 Reed Street, which will cost the city $50.16 annually.
The councilmembers officially declared Boswell, District 1 Councilman William Cooper, District 4 Councilman Jones Wallace "Al" Miller and newcomer District 5 Rhett Marques who was unopposed for the District 5 seat of Paul Russell, as elected councilmembers as they had no other person qualify as a candidate.
Councilmembers also approved Beverly Sweeney as the absentee election manager for the 2012 municipal election cycle.
