Board shifts contracts of extracurricular personnel

During a Jan. 10 special called meeting, Enterprise City School Board members approved the partial contract termination for many of the system's extracurricular program instructors.

The shift changes all contracts concerned from either 12- to 10-month contracts to nine-month contracts across the board.

Superintendent Dr. Aaron Milner said the change will provide the school system with a consistency in contracts for extracurricular activity instructors.

The change will go into effect for the 2012-2013 school year.

The partial contract cancellations apply to Scott Baldwin, head eighth grade football coach and physical education teacher at Enterprise Junior High School; Truitt Chambers, groundskeeper, assistant football coach and driver education teacher at Enterprise High School; Kevin Collins, athletic director and driver education teacher at EHS; David Edgar, head eighth grade football coach and science teacher at Dauphin Junior High School; Vohn Enloe, head eighth grade basketball coach, assistant eighth grade football coach and science teacher at DJHS; Scott Glenn, head ninth grade football coach and physical education teacher at DJHS; Buck Hanson, assistant football coach, ninth grade baseball coach and physical education teacher at EHS; Kenny Hill, head basketball coach and science teacher at EHS; Patsy Holland, head eighth and ninth grade volleyball coach, head eighth grade basketball coach and physical education teacher at DJHS; Freda Jones, assistant volleyball coach and math teacher at EHS; David Keel, eighth grade assistant football coach, ninth grade boys basketball coach and history teacher at EJHS; Heather Mitchell, head cheerleader coach and math teacher at EHS; Stan Sauls, head girls tennis coach and history teacher at EHS; Marc Sieving, assistant football coach, head boys tennis coach and physical education teacher at EHS; Rita Tanner, head volleyball coach, physical education teacher and health teacher at EHS; Brian Weeden, head junior varsity basketball coach and physical education teacher at Pinedale Elementary School; Melissa White, head girls basketball coach, head junior varsity basketball coach and physical education teacher at EHS; Charlton Ford, band director and band instructor at EHS; Dayna Walker, assistant band director, winter guard director, color guard director and band instructor at EHS; Isaac Wimberly, assistant band director and band instructor at Coppinville Junior High School; John Baker, choral music director and choral music instructor at EHS; and Susan Markel, choral music director and choral music instructor at CJHS.

Other personnel changes approved by board members were the resignations of Yazmin Carmen, English as a second language aide for Enterprise City Schools; Jay Heninger, groundskeeper at EHS; and Hinton Johns, secondary curriculum supervisor for Enterprise City Schools.

Board members approved the transfer of Tom Planchon, Enterprise City School transportation supervisor, to regular bus route driver.

Board members also approved the employment of Melisa Bell, six-hour per day lunchroom worker at EHS; Brittany Jones, sixth grade teacher at Rucker Boulevard Elementary School; and Shannon Tipton, instructional/graduation coach at EHS.

Tipton's position will be funded, Milner said, through funds receive by the recently acquired $2.5 million Department of Defense Education Activity grant.

The next regular Enterprise City Schools board meeting is at 6 p.m., Jan. 31, in the central office building on Hutchinson Street.
