A Daleville woman is dead after police say she was shot by her stepson before he turned the gun on himself.
At about 7:50 a.m., April 26, Daleville dispatch received a call from a residence off of Holman Bridge Road regarding a man bleeding from the face.
When police arrived they found Thomas Michael Presley, 22, with a gunshot wound to the neck that exited out the back of his head.
Shortly after, police found his stepmother Loretta Leia Presley, 44, with a gunshot to the head in a trailer at 33 East Street.
Dale County Coroner Woody Hilboldt pronounced the stepmother dead at 9:10 a.m.
According to Daleville Police Chief Ronnie Williamson, it appears the son shot his stepmother before turning the gun on himself and walking across the street to a neighbor's home where he collapsed at the doorstep.
The son was initially transported to Medical Center Enterprise, Williamson said, and later transported to Southeast Alabama Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.
Williamson said the investigating officers are Sgt. Allen Medley, Lt. Willy Powell and Sgt. Stacey Austin. Williamson also thanked the Dale County Sheriff's Department for their assistance with the case that is still under investigation.
The Sun will update this story as more information becomes available.
