The Daleville Dog Park Committee announced Sept. 15 the new name for the city's first park committed to man's best friend.
The committee received 112 unique entries but in the end Choctawpoochie Park was chosen as the winner. The second place winner was "Fort Ruffer."
Daleville Chamber of Commerce Director Kay Kirkland said the winning entry was submitted by Ethan Guice, a senior at Enterprise High School.
The winner was announced during the Daleville Dine and Discover meeting at the Castle Cafe. Guice and his father were special guests at the meeting.
Guice received a $50 gift card for his entry.
“We wanted something playful,” Kirkland said. “We knew we had some creative people in the community and we wanted to see what cute names they could come up with.”
If interested in donating or volunteering to help get the park up and running, contact Kirkland at 598-6331.

Congratulations and applause for Daleville!!! We need more pet-friendly places all over the Wiregrass. Pets mean a lot to people, and a dog park will be a wonderful place for doggies to play with each other, their owners, and children. What a wonderful place to socialize young dogs as well, and begin training assistance dogs such as those that visit retirement and nursing homes, etc.
And rsanders...perhaps having something unique such as the dog park will help bring about some improvements to the City of Daleville. Why not work toward the positive possibilities?

Welcome to Daleville! We have fast food restaurants, pawn shops, potholed roads, faded and rusted street signs, and a lot of vacant commercial buildings. We haven't had a single new subdivision built in twenty years but, golly gee-whiz, we sure do have a brand spanking new dawggie park!! And, and, come see our imitation lamplights on Old Highway 134. Yep, we wasted the fedral guvmint's money on those purty little things.
