Ronnie Gilley spoke to the media following sentencing today in Montgomery, asking for prayers during this difficult time.
Gilley was sentenced to 80 months in prison. Gilley's former lobbyist, Jarrod Massey, was sentenced to 65 months, and former state representative Terry Spicer was sentenced to 57 months.
Sentencing came after a long day of character witnesses and testimony from Gilley, Spicer and Massey. The trio will turn themselves in to authorities Aug. 27.
Gilley told reporters outside the courthouse that he hopes the sentences and bingo corruption trials shed light onto the corruption within the state. Although it’s been a difficult three years, he said, today was one of the best days of his life, because he can now move forward from the ordeal.
Judge Myron Thompson said a combination of no prior records and remorse led to lenient sentences for the three men, which Gilley said he believes was handled fairly.
