The Enterprise Wildcats (3-2-1) soccer team picked up a 4-1 win over rival Dothan on a frigid night Friday, Feb. 21.
Enterprise wasted no time jumping out to an early lead as senior Sam Mazariegos scored his first of three goals on the night with less than a minute ticked off of the game clock in the first half. A deep pass from fellow senior Clayton Jenison earned the assist on the goal.
Dothan tied the score up at the 20:22 mark of the first half before Mazariegos scored again on a Matthew Sheahan assist with 18:21 left to put Enterprise back ahead 2-1.
Mazariegos completed his hat trick with his third goal of the game off another Jenison assist with 37:00 left in the second half.
Wildcat junior Jaden Polidore extended the lead to 4-1 with 28:23 remaining in the game off yet another Jenison assist.
Enterprise hits the road on Feb. 28 to face off against Oak Mountain before facing Hoover on Feb. 29 in a rematch of last season’s state championship game.
The Lady Cats also faced off against Fairhope on Saturday, Feb. 22, and battled to a 1-1 tie a tough defensive battle.
After both sides went scoreless for most of the game, Enterprise’s Sydney Garth scored a goal with 32:06 left in the game to take a 1-0 lead. Hope Yerdon picked up the assist on the goal.
Fairhope managed a goal with less than 8:00 remaining to force the 1-1 tie.
Defensively, Enterprise was led by Maggie Bryan with 10 saves at goalie, while both Jillian Martin and Madilyn Webb had seven steals.
The JV Lady Cats picked up a 3-0 win over Fairhope JV, however. Jessica Hale, Bailey Jackson and Ines Von Mahland each scored a goal for the Lady Cats, while Alivia Padgett had one assist and Evelyn Holmes had two assists.
Lizzy Joreski had eight saves at goal keeper, while Rosie Venezia had five steals and Dana Rhynes had four steals.
