EHS wrestling competes at Swede Umbach Duals

The Enterprise High School wrestling traveled to Auburn Dec. 11-12 and competed in the annual Swede Umbach Duals and finished the tournament with a 3-3 record.

Enterprise opened up pool play with a 42-40 win over Auburn. After all of the matches took place the two teams were tied 40-40 but the deciding factor – number of forfeit wins – favored the Wildcats as EHS picked up the two forfeit wins.

Evelyn Holmes-Smith (106 pounds), Zachary McFarland (120 pounds) and Trace Woodward (126 pounds) all earned pinfall wins for EHS. Grier Hunt (113 pounds) picked up a win when his opponent was injured in their match, while Cody Kirk (132 pounds) picked up a 14-2 decision win. Brandon Messmer (182 pounds) and Kaden Franke (195 pounds) picked up the forfeit wins.

The Wildcats fell 55-15 to Spain Park in the next match with McFarland (120 pounds) picking up the only pinfall win for EHS in the match. Kirk (132 pounds) also earned a 10-3 decision and Hunt (113 pounds) won a forfeit.

Enterprise bounded back to pick up a 40-27 victory over Bob Jones in the final match of pool play.

Woodward (126 pounds), Will Gottsacker (160 pounds) and Dakotah Barber (285 pounds) all won pins. McFarland (120 pounds) picked up a forfeit win and Kirk (132 pounds) won a 10-8 decision. Samuel Lynon (152 pounds) also picked up a 15-13 decision win and Franke (195 pounds) also won a 5-1 decision. Kameron Stiffller (106 pounds) won an 11-4 decision and Hunt (113) picked up a 12-4 decision win.

In the championship round, Enterprise fell to Wetumpka 48-27 as McFarland (120 pounds), Lynon (152 pounds), Messmer (182 pounds) and Holmes-Smith (106) each gave Enterprise pinfall victories. Kirk (132 pounds) also picked up a 10-9 decision.

Enterprise again bounced back with a 60-23 win over Pelham in the next match. Woodward (126 pounds), Kirk (132 pounds), Gottsacker (160 pounds), Barber (285 pounds), Hunt (113 pounds) and McFarland (120 pounds) all picked up pinfall wins. Scott Hernandez (170 pounds), Messmer (182 pounds), Franke (195 pounds) and Carson Phillips (220 pounds) won via forfeit.

Enterprise lost its final tournament match 51-21 to Hewitt-Trussville.

Lynon (145 pounds) and McFarland (120 pounds) picked up pinfall wins, while Franke (182 pounds) won a 14-7 decision and Holmes-Smith (106 pounds) won via forfeit.

McFarland went 5-0 in the tournament with four of his wins coming via pinfall.
