The Coffee County School Board honored longtime board member Larry Eddins at the Nov. 5 meeting as it was his last.

Eddins has been involved in education for more than 40 years first as a teacher and coach at Enterprise High School and then a board member with Coffee County Schools.

Eddins served as a teacher and coach at EHS from 1970 until 1999. He served as a head baseball coach at EHS from 1971 until 1983 and was an assistant football coach under the legendary Bill Bacon.

“I’ve known Coach Eddins for going on 30 years and from the first time I ever came to coach and asked him questions he was more than happy to help me learn about coaching the Xs and Os,” Coffee County Schools Superintendent Kevin Killingsworth said. “He was always open and never said he didn’t have time for me. Going on 30 years later I appreciate that. When I needed guidance you were willing to be the one that gave me that guidance.”

After retiring from EHS in 1999, Eddins joined the Coffee County School Board in 2002 until 2010 and again from 2014 until 2020.

“I just want to tell everyone how much I’ve enjoyed being a part of this board and how impressed I am with the things we’ve been able to get done over the years,” Eddins said. “Tonight was a good example of things that have happened well for this community. It makes me feel real good and I do know that Coffee County Schools are in good hands and they are very good schools. “

Eddins was presented with the Outstanding Leadership Award to honor his time on the board. While Larry Eddins may be moving on from the school board, his wife Sherry Eddins, ran unopposed in the Nov. 3 election this year.
