The Enterprise Fire Department responded to a fire at Taco Bell on Boll Weevil Circle at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday night, March 8.

According to Fire Chief Byron Herring, flames were visible from a decorative column outside.

The fire was contained to the building's front, and minor damage occurred to the inside of the structure.

Herring said the probable cause for the fire was the careless discarding of smoking material in the landscaping consisting of wood chips at the front of the building.

Store Manager Nakeesha Lawton said she called 911 after seeing smoke inside the dining room of the restaurant.

"I tried to stay as calm as possible," Lawton said. "I tried to get everyone out of the building and get the customers away from the building safely."

District Manager Gail Gilmore said she was also contacted and advised management to call 911.

There were no injuries, according to Lawton. There were about eight employees in the building during the incident, and all customers were in the drive thru area.

According to Herring, the drive thru area is currently open and the dining room is expected to be open to customers by the end of the day.
