Former Daleville and Troy star running back Brandon Burks recently signed a new contract with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
Burks spent the previous two seasons playing for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. With Toronto, Burks totaled 782 total yards and two touchdowns as he battled injuries and split time with other backs.
Burks and a number of other players were released by Toronto on Feb. 3 but Burks quickly signed with Edmonton on Feb. 11.
Burks is one of five running backs currently signed to Edmonton who will be vying to replace last season’s leading rushing CJ Cable, who was released after rushing for more than 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons with the Eskimos.
Burks was an all-state running back at Daleville before becoming an All-Sun Belt running back at Troy. He played for both the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers in the NFL before a serious knee injury sidelined him for more than a year.
