LP approves to pay city insurance

The Level Plains City Council approved to pay the city’s liability, equipment and auto insurance at its last meeting on Oct. 15.

The insurance will be provided by Alabama Municipal Insurance Corporation that includes blanket coverage for the properties, meaning insurance will pay for the repair/rebuilding of the property even if it costs more than the property’s value.

In other business, the council approved paying half of the Level Plains Volunteer Fire Department’s premium at $3,325 as well as approved the LPVFD to pay its half.

A service agreement for the generator at well #4 with Taylor Power Systems for $790 was approved 3-1.

Councilman James Bullinger was the no vote, citing concerns he had with the contract’s wording.

The city approved to pay its yearly membership with the Association of the United States Army, with Bulllinger abstaining from the vote due to a conflict of interest.

LPVFP Capt. Stanley Gatlin addressed the council to ask for permission for the department to buy eight SCBA bottles for $5,153.72.

“We have some bottles that are going out of date this year and we need some new ones to replace them,” Gatlin said. “We’ll be in pretty good shape after this. We got eight brand-new air packs donated to us from (Fort) Rucker and now we’re going to eight brand new everything.”

The council approved the request.

The city council also approved replacing the septic tank at the city’s water house.

Bullinger also provided an update as part of the Street Paving Committee.

He said that the committee is currently looking into pursuing a 2020 Rebuild Alabama Act Grant to allow for more roadwork to be done.

The next Level Plains City Council Meeting will be Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at Level Plains City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
