Visitors to the Enterprise Farmer’s Market saw a little more of a Southern summer staple during the market’s Watermelon Day on Saturday, June 29.

Not only did market-goers have the opportunity to purchase fresh fruit, vegetables and other items from market vendors, several watermelon-themed contests were held to offer some fun.

In the Biggest Watermelon contest, Dusty Watkins won with a 44-pound watermelon.

In the Seed Spitting contest, Judson Fowler had the farthest distance in the 7 years and under category, J.D. Kudrna had the farthest distance for ages 8-15 and Beth Gilber had the farthest distance for the 16 years and older.

In the Watermelon Rolling Contest, winners were named in five age groups. Vinny Scofield won for the 5 years and under category, Adriana Esparza won for ages 6-8, J.D. Kudrna won for ages 10-12, Emily Williams won for ages 13-15 and Jared Bain won for the 16 and older category.

In the Watermelon Eating contest, the winner for the 5 years and under category was Harper Klick. Mary Evelyn Koehler was the winner for ages 6-9, Emily Williams won for ages 10-13, and Jared Bain won for ages 17 and older.
