The Enterprise Wildcats (1-0) opened up the 2020-2021 basketball season with a win over the Charles Henderson Trojans on the road in Troy on Nov. 20 by a score of 60-53.
Enterprise started out hot and heavy outscoring Charles Henderson 20-8 in the first quarter. The Trojans were able to bounce back and outscore Enterprise 16-13 in the second quarter to cut the Wildcat lead to 33-21 at halftime.
Enterprise won the third quarter 19-14 and took a 52-35 lead into the fourth quarter. The Trojans were able to outscore the Cats 18-8 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough as Enterprise held on to the 60-53 win.
Enterprise was led in the win by newcomer Elijah Terry – a junior transfer from Carroll – with 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal. Junior Quentin Hayes added 14 points, eight rebounds, one assists and two steals.
Senior Josh McCray chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and one steal, while senior Jalen Cunningham dished five assists and earned four steals on defense. Freshman Keion Dunlap also had six points, two rebounds and one steal. In total, eight Wildcats scored in the win.
Charles Henderson was led by Akeives Shorts with 14 points and Cody Youngblood chipped in with 13 points.
The Wildcats followed up with an appearance in the Thompson Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 24. Enterprise walloped the Jackson-Olin Mustangs 77-44 in the opening round.
Enterprise jumped out to a 20-11 lead in the first quarter and then ran away with the game in the second quarter. The Wildcats outscored Jackson-Olin 30-10 in the period to take a 50-21 lead into halftime. Enterprise again outscored the Mustangs 22-14 before Jackson-Olin finally outscored Enterprise 9-5 in the fourth quarter.
Enterprise was 52.6 percent shooting from the field and 53.8 percent from three-point range in the win. The Wildcats also outrebounded the Mustangs 41-29 and forced 23 turnovers.
Hayes led Enterprise with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Cunningham scored 12 points and grabbed two rebounds with two steals.
Terry added 10 points, three rebounds and two steals, while McCray scored eight points and dished two assists.
The Lady Cats (1-1) dropped their game with the Lady Trojans 44-38 after Charles Henderson rallied in the fourth quarter.
Enterprise outrebounded Charles Henderson 34-29 in the loss and shot the ball 35 percent compared to 31 percent for the Lady Trojans. Charles Henderson, however, shot 52 percent from the free throw line, while Enterprise was just 33 percent at the charity stripe.
NeNe Nelson led Enterprise with 14 points, while Jaida Gosha pitched in with eight points and Harmony Baker scored seven points.
