The New Brockton Gamecocks (1-5) struggled to a 41-6 loss to the Northside Methodist Knights (4-4) at Dothan’s Rip Hewes Stadium on Oct. 9.

New Brockton had to not only deal with a high-powered Northside Methodist offense and the driving rain but also a number of injuries that are beginning to pile up for the Gamecocks.

As New Brockton was forced to break in a number of new players in the defensive secondary early on, the Knights took advantage tossing a 54-yard touchdown pass and a 61-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to go up 14-0 early.

The Gamecocks managed to cut the lead to 14-6 after Julian Noble cashed in a 3-yard touchdown run, after also picking off a Northside Methodist pass on defense. The PAT was no good, however, and the Knights still led 14-6.

In the second quarter, the Knights extended the lead to 21-6 on a 21-yard touchdown pass and took that lead into halftime.

“It didn’t go the way we wanted it to,” Holmes said. “We had some new guys in the secondary that they picked on a little bit early but we got that fixed. We had some injuries that definitely hurt us offensively. When that happened it had a major impact on the second half.”

New Brockton quarterback Kaden Cupp, center Cameron McGhee, receiver/safety Colton Marsh and running back Jordan Tacey suffered injuries just before halftime and the Gamecock offense never found its footing in the second half as the Knights scored 20 unanswered points. Northside Methodist scored on a 38-yard run, a 2-yard run and a 40-yard pass to pick up the 41-6 win.

The Knights outgained New Brockton 447 yards to just 183 yards.

Cupp led New Brockton with 45 yards on eight carries along with 43 yards and an interception on 9-of-15 passing before leaving the game with an injury.

Brayson Carr replaced Cupp and completed 3-of-12 pass attempts for 25 yards.

Noble had a big night for the Gamecocks with 41 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries on offense along with one reception for three yards. On defense, Noble recorded 11 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Tacey rushed for 35 yards on nine carries and recorded six tackles before leaving with an injury.

Marsh caught two passes for 26 yards and recorded two tackles and a tackle-for-loss before suffering his injury.

Linebacker Jamarcus Brown recorded seven tackles and two tackles-for-loss for the Gamecock defense, while Karyus McNabb tallied nine tackles.
