Coffee County

The Coffee County Commission held a regular meeting on June 22 and approved a contract to be entered into with Southern Engineering Solution for engineering design services.

Those design services will be performed on the current construction site for the future Ben E. Keith Foods Southeastern Regional Headquarters in New Brockton as the county and Town of New Brockton upgrade electricity, water and other utilities for the site.

County Administrator Rod Morgan also wanted to remind the public that run-off elections in the county would take place July 14 and the deadline for voter registration – to be able to vote in that election – is June 29. The cut off for absentee voting is July 9.

In other business, the commission approved a resolution to enter an agreement with Auburn University’s branch of the National Center of Asphalt Technology (NCAT). NCAT will perform the testing and evaluation of the new rubberized asphalt that the county will be resurfacing certain roads with in the coming months, which will be paid for with funds from the Alabama Scrap Tire Fund.

Also, the commission approved a low bid of $457,690.92 from Wiregrass Construction for the resurfacing of County Road 723.
