LP approves LPPD grant application

The Level Plains City Council approved submitting an application for the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program at its regular meeting on Oct. 1.

At a public hearing about the grant, which also occurred on Oct. 1, Level Plains Mayor Bruce Grantham said the city applies for the grant every year for police equipment.

If awarded, Grantham said the city will use the money to purchase five laptops, two desktop computers, one radar, one driver’s license reader and five radios all for the Level Plains Police Department. Grantham said that the radios would be compatible with the Dale County Sheriff’s Office frequency.

He said that the grant is a 2020 grant so the city would not see the money until next year, if the city is awarded the grant.

In other business, the council approved buying two new computers for the water department at a total cost of $1,458.

The council also voted to table ordinance 359 regarding the water superintendent’s salary.

The next Level Plains City Council meeting will be Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at Level Plains City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
