An Ozark man has been arrested after a high speed vehicle chase that ended in Ozark Sunday evening.
Michael Kirkley, 22, has been charged withattempting to elude.
According to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Trooper Kendra McKinney, at approximately 8:42 p.m. Feb. 14, ALEA Highway Patrol Division troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2000 Kawasaki ZX750 traveling eastbound on County Road 34 at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the roadway. The driver, who was later identified as Kirkley, refused to stop, McKinney said.
“Kirkley did not stop at the stop sign on Andrews Ave. and County Road 34 and continued traveling southbound on Campground Road,” she said. “While still traveling at a high rate of speed and on the wrong side of the roadway, Kirkley turned left onto Lakeview Road.”
Troopers then blocked off the roadway at Gunter Drive and Lakeview Road where Kirkley collided into the front end of a trooper’s patrol vehicle,” McKinney said. The stop and arrest was successful as a result of the effort by ALEA’s Highway Patrol.”
Nothing more is available as troopers with ALEA Highway Patrol Division investigate.
