Angelia Filmore of Daleville has been appointed to the Vivian B. Adams School Board of Directors.
Filmore was appointed by the Dale County Commission at the Oct. 13 meeting to fill the unexpired term of Dr. George Robert “Bob” Crosby of Ozark who died Sept. 30 at the age of 81.
The Vivian B. Adams School, located in Ozark since its inception in 1971, provides educational opportunities for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities. The school currently serves 124 people from Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Henry, Houston and Pike Counties in an extended year program.
“Angelia will do a great job,” said Dale County Commissioner Charles “Chic” Gary, who also serves as the president of the VBAS Board. “She has a heart for the individuals at Adams School and that’s what it takes—having a heart for the individuals and the school.”
Filmore serves as the city clerk of Daleville and is a member of the Daleville Board of Education. She serves also on the Boys & Girls Club of Daleville board and is a longtime Daleville Lions Club member.
Gary noted that Crosby had served VBAS with dedication for years and will be sorely missed.
In other business, the commission approved the bid to build the Dale County Sheriff’s Department Pistol Range building at a cost of $112,000. The money will be paid from the capital fund.
In unrelated business, the commission approved Dale County Commission Chairman Mark Blankenship’s request to surplus his county cell phone and laptop and transfer it to the city of Ozark effective Nov. 2 when he assumes his newly elected position as Ozark Mayor.
Also effective Nov. 2, Dale County Commissioner Chris Carroll will be interim commission chairman pending an appointment by Gov. Kay Ivey to fill the seat being vacated by Blankenship.
The next meeting of the Dale County Commission is Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Dale County Government Building in Ozark. A work session is followed immediately by a voting meeting. Both meetings are open to the public.
