The Knights of Columbus, Council 11480 had to postpone its fish fry on Aug. 2, due to a funeral at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Enterprise. The Marine Corps League Wiregrass Detachment 752 will conduct a Birthday Ball on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 5 until 11:30 p.m. at the Dothan Elks Lodge Ball Room at 3041 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan. There will be a cocktail hour followed by the presentation of the colors and a special remembrance ceremony to honor our fallen Marines. Each Tuesday and Wednesday, Chapter 99 will maintain a DAV Service Office in the New Brockton police station. This office will assist veterans who were injured or disabled while in military service. DAV Service Officers help veterans and their spouses with disability compensation claims, VA pension, death benefits, VA medical care, Social Security disability benefits, veterans’ job programs, homeless veterans assistance and other veteran services. Gifted students are those who perform at high levels in academic or creative fields when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment. Anyone with knowledge of a gifted child, in grades K-12, may refer this child for evaluation. The Eligibility Determination Team collects information in the following areas to determine eligibility:
• aptitude
• behavior characteristics
• performance indicators
These students require services not ordinarily provided by the regular school program. Students possessing these abilities can be found in any race, ethnic group, nationality or gender, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor.
The school system shall prohibit discrimination against any student on the above basis with respect to participation in the gifted program.

Academic Foundation for International Cultural Exchange is looking for individuals to work as community representatives. Community representatives find host families and work with their students during the school year. Individuals must enjoy working with teenagers and have good communication skills.
AFICE is also looking for host families in the local area to host a foreign exchange student. These young ambassadors are between 15 and 18 years of age and all speak English.
