The Enterprise Police Department is investigating the passing of counterfeit money to businesses in the city of Enterprise.

Police said in a statement that the suspect(s) is passing off "washed" $5 bills as $100 bills.

The suspect(s) are "washing" the ink off a $5 bill and copying the front and back of a $100 onto the washed $5 bill.

The bill looks and feels like real money. Counterfeit marker pens will not show the paper as fake.

There are several ways to know the $100 is counterfeit. Hold the $100 bill to the light and the image of Abraham Lincoln will show if it is actually a $5 bill. The image of Benjamin Franklin will show if the bill is a $100 bill.

A security strip that runs up the side of the bill will say if the bill is a $5 bill or a $100 bill.

It is possible that other denominations are being washed and copied, but the fake $100 bills are the only bills the EPD has recovered so far.

The Enterprise Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is investigating this counterfeit money scam and asks that anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Enterprise Police Department at (334) 347-2222 or leave us a tip at www.enterprisepd.com.
