The status of several projects ongoing in the city was outlined by Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell for those attending the Feb. 3 city council meeting.
The Lester Drive project is 85 percent complete, Boswell said. H and L Construction continues work on the $249,000 Lester Drive culvert replacement, which began at the end of last year.
The Coppinville Road project is complete and waiting to be signed off on, the mayor said. It is a federal project which means that could take up to six months, he said.
The Cowpen Creek sewer improvement project is complete and final closeout is in process between the contractor and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Boswell also reported that a pre-construction meeting with the Alabama Department of Transportation is set for next week on the Aviation Boulevard project. Construction is expected to begin the week after that.
Boswell said the Enterprise Airport sewer project’s final walkthrough is complete and the final paperwork has been initiated.
There has been another delay on the Dauphin Street project, Boswell said. Dauphin Street Phase 1 and 2 had been expected to be bid in February but has been delayed until March due to some shortfalls on the part of the consulting engineers, he said.
The airport fire department truck has been delivered, Boswell said. Firefighter training has started and should be complete by Feb. 27.
Boswell said a schematic layout for the rehab of Bates Memorial Stadium is complete and a design is in process.
The water department rehab bid for Railroad Street Well No. 3 is set to be opened Feb 23 at 2 p.m. Work should begin in mid to late February, Boswell said, and should be completed within 90 days.
The council approved Wiregrass Construction’s request for a delay in the street resurfacing project due to the cold weather. Glen Morgan with Polyengineering explained that the surface treatment is climate sensitive and that the weather has precluded them from proceeding. The surface treatment cannot be put down if the weather is less than 60 degrees, Morgan said, asking that the city suspend the contract until such time as the weather is at least 60 degrees for at least three consecutive days. This will delay the project’s completion by up to 45 days.
The council heard a request from Herndon Oil for an off premise ABC license at their 1114 Rucker Boulevard location. The council will vote on the matter at the Feb. 17 council meeting.
The council approved Enterprise Parks and Recreation Director Billy Powell’s request to award the concession stand’s soft drink product to Dothan Coca-Cola Bottling Company. No other bids were received.
The council also approved the request of Deanna Shankle, representing the Enterprise YMCA, for the Sweetheart 5K and 1Mile Fun Run to be held Feb. 14 from 9 until 11 a.m.
In other business, the council approved a resolution providing for an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for the resurfacing of County Road 700/Shellfield road from SR 27 to the Dale County line. The resolution further authorized the mayor to approve the final agreement from the state. The estimated cost of construction for the project is $519,395.16 in Federal Lands Access Program Funds, $190,871.54 in county funds and $15,030.88 in city funds, for a total cost of $725,297.58.
The next Enterprise City Council meeting is Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.
