In a June 18 Enterprise City Council meeting, council members approved a motion to no longer serve as the "pass through" vehicle for ad valorem taxes to the school system.

Previously, distribution of the 7 mill ad valorem tax went from the Coffee County Revenue Commissioner's office to the Enterprise City School System through the city.

The resolution passed by the council also provides authorization to the Coffee County Revenue Commissioner to distribute the District 48 capital schools outlay funds directly to the Enterprise School System.

On average, Enterprise City Clerk Steve Hicks said the city transfers $1.8 million in ad valorem taxes to the school system.

In other council news, councilmembers approved an interlocal agreement between the Enterprise Police Department and the Coffee County Sheriff's Department to secure and expend funds from the 2013 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant.

The city expects to receive $11,107 from the grant and provide $6,664 to the Enterprise Police Department and $4,442 to the Coffee County Sheriff's Department.

The funds will be utilized to purchase and interview room camera system for the EPD and surveillance equipment for the CCSD.

The city also renewed its contract with Revenue Discovery Services, which determines if entities doing business in Enterprise are licensed.

Hicks said this is the third time rolling over the contract and in those three years the company has generated nearly $300,000 in business license revenue.

The next Enterprise City Council meeting is at 6 p.m., July 2, at city hall.
