“Having access to healthcare minutes from your home means a great deal,” said Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell as he joined economic development, chamber of commerce and city and county elected officials in welcoming owners of a new medical complex to town Monday morning.

At an official groundbreaking ceremony, held under the cover of the new Farmers Market due to inclement weather, owners of Holley Pharmacy and Digestive Health Specialists of the Southeast shoveled the first scoops of dirt, marking the start of their new 15,000 square foot medical building.

The building will house at least five doctors’ offices and the pharmacy, Boswell said.

The new complex is expected to bring between 40 or 50 jobs to Enterprise. “You’ve heard me say it,” Boswell said. “Creating jobs is what it’s all about.”

Boswell introduced Holley Pharmacy owners John and Jason Holley and Digestive Health Specialists representatives Dr. Daniel Jackson, office manager Grace Jones and administrator Andy Franklin.

“The health industry today is very vital,” Boswell said. “This new medical complex gives our citizens options of where to go for health care.”

The land has already been cleared for the new complex on Main Street across from the new Farmers Market. Construction is expected to take nine months.

The $3 million investment also enhances the city's downtown revitalization efforts, Boswell said. “One of the things we started in 2000—and have continued—is the improvement of our downtown area,” Boswell said. “We feel that our downtown is the heartbeat of the city.”

"You've often heard me say, whether it's industrial development or whether it's actually just a person investing in downtown, creating jobs is what it's all about," he added. “Today we are celebrating another addition to downtown that I think will strengthen and enhance our downtown area a great deal.”

Wiregrass Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Jonathan Tullos agreed.

“When I moved here about 13 years ago, to Fort Rucker, downtown Enterprise looked vastly different than it does today,” Tullos said. “The term that’s used is ‘public and private partnership’ in community development and I think you see an example of that here in Enterprise.

"Healthcare is obviously a very important factor for the development of any community,” Tullos added. “This helps broaden what we're going to be able to offer in the Enterprise area.”

“To see downtown blossom to where it is today is very gratifying to all of us on the administrative team,” Boswell said. “When I look at the many people in this room and realize the investments they have made, I have to tell you all how much it is appreciated by the city government.”
