Enterprise High School is now an off campus instructional site of the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College.
EBOE Director of Personnel and Curriculum Dr. Patrick Cain told those attending the Enterprise Board of Education meeting Sept. 29 that 25 to 49 percent of the credit hours required for a short certificate degree in welding and automotive from LBWCC can be obtained at EHS.
Some 60 students are currently benefiting from the partnership, Cain said. One positive result of the dual enrollment is that students are obtaining their course work free of charge in those two areas.
Receiving a $90,000 grant that EHS and LBWCC co-wrote, the grant will help fund the programs at the high school, Cain said
Nearly $15,000 will go towards supplies and software and more $75,000 will go towards equipment, to include two new welding booths and ventilation systems in the existing EHS welding lab.
“None of this could be possible without our greatest resources, our teachers,” Cain said, recognizing EHS Welding Instructor Dale Stewart and Automotive Service Technology Teacher Steve Icenogle. Both educators are recognized by LBWCC as adjunct professors.
Cain credited LBWCC President Dr. Herbert Riedel, LBWCC Dean of Instruction Peggy Linton and LBWCC Dual Enrollment Advisor Debra Hudson for making the dual enrollment opportunity a reality.
Cain also credited EHS Assistant Principal Danny Long and EHS Counselor Holly Lane for “working diligently to make this possible for our students.”
