The votes are in and the people's voices have been heard in the 2014 primary election.

About 28.50 percent of Coffee County voters turned out and cast 8,208 ballots.

Locally, current state Sen. Jimmy Holley was re-elected with 55 percent of the vote against challenger Garreth Moore in Coffee County, and won the right to face Larry Greenwood in the general election in November.

For state representative, incumbent Barry Moore received 55.44 percent of the vote against challenger Josh Pipkin.

"I'm humbled by the people's continued support," Moore said. "This has been a hard fought battle and I'm grateful to my friends and family who have worked so hard in our effort."

Moore received 3,901 votes and Pipkin received 3,136.

"This has been a very tough campaign," Pipkin said. "We live in the greatest community in this state and I believe the healing process has already begun. Our community and the Republican Party now need to come together in support of Barry and help him to make Coffee County a better place. I wish Rep. Moore and his family the best."

A candidate must receive 50 percent or more of the vote to win, and with challenger Robert Preachers receiving 41.79 percent (3,147 votes) in the race for coroner and incumbent Tim Whitehead receiving 39.74 percent (2,993), the two will face one another in a July 15 run-off election.

"I appreciate everybody coming out to vote, and hope they come out again and vote on July 15," Whitehead said.
