Both the Daleville Warhawks (1-10) baseball team and Lady Hawks (0-10) softball team returned from spring break on Monday, April 1, with the Warhawks hosting Elba and the Lady Hawks traveling to meet Geneva County.
The Warhawks could manage just one hit as a team and struggled on defense as well, as Elba took a 16-0 win over Daleville.
Cortez Buckhalter went 1-for-1 with a single to lead the Warhawks at the plate, while Jordan McDonald earned two strikeouts and Blake Moore had two strikeouts on the mound.
The Lady Hawks also struggled at the plate and on the mound.
Geneva County jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the Lady Hawks finally got on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the third inning. Geneva County scored three more runs in the bottom of the third and five in the fourth inning to seal the 17-2 win over Daleville.
Alyssa Straw and Jamie Peters earned one hit each and were the only Lady Hawks to get a hit against Geneva County. Peters also earned an RBI and stole a base. Straw and Haley Jones also had one steal each. Straw and Alyssa Harris earned one run each.
Harris struck out one batter and gave up 11 hits and 17 runs in the circle.
The Lady Hawks JV team also fell to Geneva County 13-2 on April 1.
The Warhawks will look to rebound on April 5 with a home matchup against Geneva County before traveling to Geneva County for a doubleheader on April 6. The Lady Hawks travel to Samson on April 9.
