The New Brockton Gamecocks (3-2) have won three consecutive games and will look to continue those winning ways as the Cottonwood Bears (1-4) travel to New Brockton for a non-region matchup.
Cottonwood is coming off of a bye week after losing to Samson 20-14 the previous week. New Brockton picked up its third consecutive win of the season with a 28-14 defeat of G.W. Long last week.
The Gamecocks have found their identity in the past three games with a punishing rushing attack and explosive plays in the passing game. Quarterback Dalton Adkison returned last week from injury but played receiver and safety rather than his usual quarterback position. Adkison scored four touchdowns in that first game and last week he continued that role and had more than 100 total yards and two touchdowns again.
According to New Brockton coach Justin Jones, Akdison playing receiver gives the Gamecocks another athletic, speedy playmaker that they can try to get out in space. Jones, however, would not commit to Adkison not returning to quarterback at some point this season.
In his place Caleb Griffin has been steady as both a runner and passer and running back Drew Simon has been a dominating force at running back, gaining more than 500 yards in the past three weeks.
Defensively, linebacker Chase Cardwell has been a force to be reckoned with totaling 62 tackles and 3.5 sacks this season.
The Gamecocks have turned up the pressure on opposing offenses over the past couple of games, which has been a point of emphasis for the team, according to Jones. The New Brockton defense will look to make Cottonwood’s quarterbacks uncomfortable all day as the Bears have been prone to turnovers this season.
