A suspect wanted for capital murder in Houston County should be featured on this weekend's America's Most Wanted show."

Houston County Sheriff Lamar Glover said that America's Most Wanted" Producer Andrea Miller has advised the Aug. 26 airing of the popular TV program should include a feature regarding Rex Allen Beckworth, age 32.

Beckworth is wanted for the January 2000 murder of Mrs. Bessie Lee Thweatt, 87, of Wicksburg. He has been on the run since March when he and his step-brother, James Earl Walker, age 20 were identified as suspects in the slaying. The FBI was asked to assist the Sheriff's Department with federal unlawful flight warrants to locate the pair on charges unrelated to the Wicksburg murder.

On June 20 the pair were located by local authorities in Hokes Bluff in Etowah County, not far from where the alleged murder weapon was stolen in a burglary on Dec. 29 of last year. Walker was arrested but Beckworth bolted from the residence and fled. Houston County Investigators spent a week in Etowah County following the arrest of Walker gathering sufficient evidence to charge both Walker and Beckworth with the murder of Mrs. Thweatt

Beckworth has continued to elude capture since the capital murder warrant was issued Sheriff Glover described Beckworth as a life long criminal. He was convicted as a habitual offender in 1989 and sentenced to 20 years in custody. He was however paroled in 1998, after less than 10 years in custody Sheriff Glover stated Beckworth has a prior work history as a truck driver.

It is suspected he may be working as a team driver with someone unaware of his fugitive status and living out of a truck sleeper. Flyers distributed throughout Southeastern cities with major interstate interchanges has produced several alleged sightings of Beckworth at truck stops in the Central Florida area. Authorities there are continuing to closely monitor those areas where he has allegedly been seen.

Sheriff Glover stated it is hoped the national exposure on America's Most Wanted will result specific information that could lead to Beckworth's capture. Officers will be on duty the night of the program to send immediate Teletype requesting coverage of leads if they are developed from the program.
