An Enterprise resident who tried to stop a man from breaking into his vehicle was shot three times just after 11 p.m. Wednesday.
"Officers responded to the 400 block of Navaho Drive in reference to a subject breaking into a vehicle. The owner of the vehicle had observed from inside his residence someone breaking into his car. After calling police, the homeowner walked from his residence and confronted the subject in the front yard," Det. Steve Russell said.
The homeowner was armed with a handgun and attempted to detain the burglar until police arrived.
"A struggle ensued between the two men and the suspect was able to gain control of the handgun and fired several shots, striking the homeowner in the wrist, leg and abdomen," Russell said.
The type of gun used during the altercation has not been released at this time.
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Glen Stackhouse, was taken into custody a short distance from the home and charged with unlawful breaking and entering and attempted murder.
It is unknown if Stackhouse was also armed at the time of the altercation.
The victim was taken to Medical Center Enterprise and officials said he might be transported to a Dothan hospital later for additional treatment.
He is expected to recover from injuries suffered during the altercation, Russell said.
