Enterprise High School JROTC students were named state champions of the Above the Best Junior Rifle State Championship competition on Jan. 13-14.
Over 90 JROTC marksmen attended the competition hosted by Daleville HIgh School.
The state championship was one of two for JROTC students who compete in USA Shooting, National Rifle Association (NRA) and Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) competitions. The second state championship was held in Anniston Jan. 6-8.
Students had the opportunity to compete in the NRA 3x20 Individual and Team competitions; the NRA Standing Individual competition, which consisted of the Sporter and Precision 60 shot competitions and the Standing Team competition; the CMP State Championship 3x20 competitions for individuals and teams; and, the USA Shooting Junior Olympic Standing 60 shot competition for individuals.
The Enterprise team won the Above the Best State Championship Team competition, and EHS student Audrey Melchor was named the Overall Above the Best State Champion.
Melchor also placed second in the NRA Standing Precision 60 shot competition.
The Enterprise team won the NRA 3x20 Team competition and the NRA Standing Team competition. Enterprise also won the CMP 3x20 Team competition.
EHS student Graham Hamlin placed second in the NRA Standing Sporter 60 shot competition, third in the USA Standing 60 shot competition, fourth in the NRA 3x20 Individual competition and fourth in the CMP State Championship 3x20 Individual competition.
He also placed third in the Overall ATB State Champion category.
EHS student Kaylynn Ellis placed third in the NRA Standing Precision 60 shot competition, and Ethan Conway placed fourth in the same competition.
EHS student Trinitee Nez placed fourth in the USA Shooting Standing 60 shot competition.
