Severe storms tonight

A potentially significant severe weather event is expected late tonight/early Thursday morning. Coffee County has been upgraded to a moderate risk (4 out of 5) while Dale County is an enhanced risk (3 out of 5) for severe weather tonight into early tomorrow.

A strong squall line will move into southeast Alabama and the Florida Panhandle with the potential of strong (EF2+) tornadoes and/or 70+ mile and hour winds.

The main hazards are damaging winds, tornadoes as well as heavy rainfall. Current estimates have the line of severe thunderstorms moving into our area after midnight, likely around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Widespread rainfall totals of 1-2 inches are expected, though locally higher amounts are possible. This rainfall may create minor flooding across already saturated areas.

Windy conditions are expected today and tonight ahead of the approaching system. Sustained winds of 20-30 mph and gusts of 40-45 mph will be possible. These winds may cause downed limbs, scattered power outages and compromise unsecured outdoor items. The winds today, prior to the storms, are a concern. A wind advisory has been issued for our area.
