A firefighter with 28 years of service to the city of Enterprise has been named interim fire chief.
Chris Davis was unanimously appointed to serve as interim chief by the Enterprise City Council at the meeting May 19.
Davis was appointed to fill the slot being vacated upon the retirement of Enterprise Fire Chief Byron Herring who announced May 7 that he will retire May 28.
Davis was the recommendation of Enterprise Mayor William Cooper and Herring to fill the fire department top slot pending selection of a new chief.
Enterprise City Council President Turner Townsend said the search for a permanent fire chief will use the same guidelines used during their recent search for a new police chief to fill the vacancy created upon the retirement of longtime Police Chief T.D. Jones.
Davis said he will formally apply for the permanent position.
