High school basketball area tournaments began play this week with the girls starting things off on Monday and tournament action will continue on through the week.
This season the postseason has altered where teams play as the higher seeded team in each game will host in the area tournament, sub-regionals and regional semifinals of the state tournament.
The Daleville Lady Hawks advanced to the semifinals of the Class 3A, Area 4 Tournament on Monday, Feb. 8, with a slim 37-33 win over Providence Christian.
The Lady Hawks were led by Joey Anderson with 20 points in the win, while Amerikus Enfinger chipped in with seven points. Rickia Thomas added seven points, Markayla Flowers scored three points, Za’Nyla Rich scored two points and Katelyn High chipped in with one point.
Providence Christian was led by Anna Beth Townsend with 24 points.
Daleville will play at No. 1 seed Slocomb on Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. In the other semifinal game Houston Academy hosts Wicksburg.
The New Brockton Lady Gamecocks fell to the Pike County Lady Bulldogs 79-15 in the Class 3A, Area 4 Semifinals. New Brockton was led by Aaliyah Silar with eight points in the loss.
The Enterprise Lady Cats host Prattville as the No. 1 seed in the opening round of the Class 7A, Area 3 Tournament tonight at 4 p.m., while the Wildcats are also the No. 1 seed and host Prattville at 6 p.m. tonight. The championship round for the girls is Feb. 12 and the boys will play the championship round on Feb. 13.
The No. 4 seed Daleville Warhawks host Slocomb in the opening round of the Class 3A, Area 3 Tournament tonight at 6 p.m. with the winner facing No. 1 seed Wicksburg in the semifinals on Feb. 11. Providence Christian hosts Houston Academy in the other semifinal game. The championship round will be held on Feb. 13.
In Class 3A, Area 4 New Brockton travels to Pike County as the No. 3 seed tonight at 6 p.m. with Opp hosting Goshen in the other semifinal game. The championship is Feb. 12.
