Enterprise High’s volleyball team turned summer workouts up a notch last week with its first team camp of the summer hosting a number of various schools from around the area.

Joining Enterprise’s varsity, junior varsity and freshman team at the camp were Goshen, GW Long, Geneva, Opp, Goshen JV, Andalusia JV, Dauphin Junior High, Coppinville Junior High, Geneva Junior High and Andalusia Junior High.

Enterprise also welcomed several college coaches and players from around the Southeast to coach the team camp. This staff included Montevallo coach Katie O’Brien, former Florida State star Erica Bunch who coaches at Maclay now, Mississippi College’s Shawna Laurendine, Coastal Alabama-South’s Dr. Ritche Dulaney, UMass-Lowell player Ariel Dulaney, Jacksonville State’s Kris Clay and former EHS stars Alex Wiggins and May Lewis. Alex Wiggins is currently a star at Alabama State and Lewis also plays at Alcorn State.

“It went great,” Enterprise coach Janie Wiggins said of the camp. “We had a lot of feedback from the staff that worked the camp and the coaches that attended. We also had a lot of good feedback from the parents, as well.”

Janie Wiggins said that the teams got a chance to give individual position training to their players as well as team drills and even a full competition day where each team played one another.

“We tried to cover as much as we could in the amount of time that we had,” Janie Wiggins said. “I feel like we did pretty good. It was good for us to see the different things that we need to focus on to get better.

“We were pleased with the progress we’re making so far and it’s a good indicator early on for things that we need to plan our practices around.”

The Lady Cats will look to continue that progress on July 22-23 when they travel to Foley to take part in McGill-Toolen’s team competition camp as the fall draws closer and closer.
