The New Brockton Gamecocks (3-13, 2-3) had a busy week last week with home games against Ariton and Goshen along with a road matchup with Samson.
The week started off with a tough 55-24 loss to Ariton at home on Jan. 13, which saw the Gamecocks struggle from the field shooting 20.8 percent for the game. The Gamecocks were also outrebounded 44-21 in the loss.
New Brockton was led by junior Dillon Kelty with 10 points and three rebounds, while senior Tariq Walker added five points and three rebounds.
Ariton was led by Landon Tyler with 14 points. Ian Senn and Hayes Floyd added 11 points each.
The Gamecocks rebounded with a resounding 75-48 win over Samson on the road on Jan. 14.
After falling behind 18-10 at the end of the first quarter, New Brockton rallied to outscore Samson 19-12 in the second quarter and cutting Samson’s lead to 30-29.
The Gamecocks took the lead for the first time early in the third quarter and then never looked back, outscoring Samson 28-12 in the third quarter and 18-6 in the fourth quarter.
The Gamecocks bounced back going 40 percent from the field and knocking down 18-of-29 free throw attempts. New Brockton also outrebounded Samson 48-43 in the win and forced 16 turnovers.
Walker had a big night as he scored a career-high 38 points – shooting 14-of-25 from the field – and grabbed 11 rebounds along with dishing four assists and picking off three steals as the senior lit up the stat sheet.
Kelty also had a big night with 16 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Dalton Shehee added 12 points added 12 points, as well.
On Jan. 16 the Gamecocks hosted Goshen and 58-41 in a frustrating loss at home.
Kelty led the Gamecocks in the loss with 14 points, while Walker added 11 points.
The Lady Gamecocks (0-15, 0-3) also continued their tough season last week and started off with a 39-7 loss to Ariton. Senior Lacey Sprinkle led New Brockton with four points in the loss.
New Brockton followed up with a rematch with Ariton on Monday, Jan. 20 and fell again 58-35.
Kelty again led New Brockton with 17 points, while Walker added 10 points and CJ Wilkerson scored six points.
The struggles continued as the Lady Gamecocks fell to Goshen 41-22 on Jan. 16. Destiny Swope led the Lady Gamecocks with seven points in the loss.
