The Enterprise Lady Cat softball team closed out the 2019 regular season with an 8-4 win over Dothan on Senior Night and then opened up Area Tournament play with a 7-5 win over Jeff Davis.
Enterprise has just two seniors on the 2019 squad, Kelsey Thomas and Haley Brown, and both were honored before the game and on the field with spray-painted paw prints with their names and numbers.
Enterprise took an early 3-0 lead in the third inning before Dothan came back to cut the lead to 3-2 in the second inning. The Lady Cats then took control with five runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-4 lead.
Dothan was able to scrape together two more runs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t get any closer and Enterprise held on to the 8-4 lead.
The Lady Cats had 11 hits as a team with four different batters earning two hits.
Taylor Danford, Jordyn Thornton, Katie Snell and Danielle Holley each had two hits, while Brittany Womack, Emma Faulk and Julianna McCollough had one hit each. Danford also had three RBIs.
Snell scored three runs while Holley, Thornton, Danford, Faulk and McCollough scored one run each.
Mattie Bowden pitched three innings and allowed just one hit and one run. Amber Nall pitched two innings and gave up one run with no hits. Emily Holland pitched two innings and gave up three hits with two runs.
Holley had a big day defensively with 13 putouts and Thornton had two putouts and five assists.
The Wildcats traveled to Prattville on Monday, April 29, for the Class 7A, Area 3 Tournament and defeated Jeff Davis 7-5 in the opening round.
The Lady Cats took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning but Jeff Davis was able to tie things up after scoring one run in the second inning and three in the third inning.
Enterprise and Jeff Davis continued to battle back-and-forth in the fourth inning with one run each to keep things knotted up 5-5.
The Lady Cats were able to take control of the game again with two runs in the fifth inning and kept Jeff Davis scoreless for the remainder of the game to maintain the 7-5 win.
Womack, Thornton and Danford each had two hits for the Lady Cats, while Faulk, Snell, Riley McCollough and Julianna McCollough had one hit each.
Thornton also scored two runs for Enterprise. Womack, Snell, Danford, Riley McCollough and Julianna McCollough had one run each.
Emily Holland pitched four innings and struck out two batters, while giving up five hits and one run. Bowden pitched the other three innings and struck out one batter along with giving up five hits and four runs. Holley had six putouts on the defensive side.
Enterprise played Prattville in the second round of the tournament on April 30 and fell 9-7 and 9-0 in the two games, but will still earn a spot in the regional round of the tournament as runner-up in Area 3.
