The New Brockton Gamecocks JV football team and Enterprise Wildcats JV and freshmen football teams officially opened up the 2019 season last week.
New Brockton JV traveled to Ariton to face off against the Ariton Purple Cats JV and fell 34-12 on Aug. 26.
The New Brockton JV team got the 2019 season off the frustrating start as they were unable to stop the Ariton passing game and couldn’t get the offense going in the loss.
Ariton went up 20-0 in the fist half before New Brockton finally got on the scoreboard with a 32-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matthew Smith to AT Wilkerson as time expired in the half. Ariton still led 20-6 at halftime, however.
Ariton continued to dominate in the second half and ultimately took a 34-6 lead before New Brockton scored again on a 2-yard touchdown run from Alexis Rivera with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Ariton would hold on to win 34-12.
Ariton rolled up 257 yards of offense – 202 passing yards – and New Brockton managed 128 total yards.
Wilkerson led the New Brockton ground game with 65 yards and a touchdown on eight rushing attempts. Smith completed 5-of-6 pass attempts for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Logan McCoy had eight tackles to lead the New Brockton defense.
Enterprise’s JV team lost 38-14 to Dothan JV but the EHS freshmen squad picked up a dominating 28-7 win over Charles Henderson.
The freshmen team was led by Sam Whitaker with a rushing and receiving touchdown in the win. Brison Chapman and Aiden White each had one rushing touchdown, as well. Chapman also had an interception on defense.
The New Brockton JV squad will host Montgomery Academy on Sept. 3 for the team’s first home game of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Enterprise JV and freshmen travel to Crestview on Sept. 5 with freshmen kicking off at 6 p.m. and JV kicked off 7:30 p.m.
