Dear Editor:

The Coffee County Emergency Management Agency would like to thank everyone for their response as well as listening for and paying attention to our warnings before and during Hurricane Michael. Your preparation makes our recovery much smoother. We are constantly in awe of the great cooperation and support provided by the citizens, civic leadership, businesses, educators and first responders in Coffee County.

It’s clear that we pull together and support each other during times of crisis like no other area in our great state. Through our office we have the pleasure of observing the profound dedication of our community to not only help each other, but also to reach out and offer assistance to our neighbors.

Though the impact of Hurricane Michael was minimal in our county, we came together and with the assistance of our Community Emergency Response Team supported sheltering 88 of our friends and neighbors from the effects of the storm.

Road crews and first responders were able to address needs and respond to calls for service throughout the duration of this event. This resulted in an early termination of the curfew. Additionally, we had many conversations with our school officials and their first priority is and remains the safety of our children.

Now, our citizens and businesses are reaching out to help each other through donations of supplies, time and money. We could not live in a better community. We in Emergency Management thank you for your attention, preparation and support. It is a pleasure serving you. Together we make this community great!
