Dear Editor:

I’d like to personally give a huge thank you to the many people who made the inaugural Patriot Day/America 250 Kickoff a great success last Friday. We had people from as far away as Tuscaloosa, Montgomery and Mobile attend the event.

The speakers were great. Fire Chief Byron Herring and former Police Chaplain Leon Adams told us of their experiences on and after the event. Thank you to Billy Powell and the Parks and Rec Crew who jumped in and did a lot and to Mitchell and Badcock Furniture for their contributions; to the Scouts of Troop 150 and the Girl Scout SU 923, as well as volunteers who walked up and helped, for their over 200 service hours in the placement of the 2,977 flags.

To Lt. Haglund and the EPD who had just lost a former captain, but attended anyway. To the Fire Department for their trucks as a backdrop. To Mr. “Master M.C.” Eddie Phillips for his usual awesome job. To any others who I left out and to the general public who took time from their busy Friday to attend.

Thank you and never forget!

Travis Parker
